The hospice in Kabuga was visited by pupils from one of the local schools. There was no shortage of people wanting to come. The sisters had to severely limit the number of visitors, because the whole school of 4000 pupils wanted to participate.
They had expected a difficult encounter with suffering people, but instead found themselves in the middle of a home far removed from stereotypes and full of life and humour.
The 85-year-old Marcel, upon seeing the students, immediately started chanting traditional songs, which the youngsters immediately responded to by starting an intergenerational song and dance show. Thérèse, who is in the terminal stage of cancer, joked that she only came to the hospice for a holiday because no hotel has such a wonderful atmosphere as here.
In addition to laughter, jokes and dancing, there was also time for frank conversation. Both sides expressed their gratitude that such a place exists.
Our patients are genuinely happy to have come to Kabuga. On their behalf we thank you very much! It is you who give them hope and strength when everything seems to lose its meaning. We are very happy that we have built a real HOME with the Sisters and the sick, in which one lives fully to the very end!
