Hunger is the easiest disease to cure

Democratic Republic of Congo

The second largest country of Africa, full of paradoxes. On one hand, it is rich in natural resources (including cobalt, copper, coltan, crude oil, diamonds, gold); on the other hand, its inhabitants are among the poorest in the world. For decades, the DRC has been suffering from prolonged conflicts that have led to one of the most severe humanitarian crises in the world.

Overview:
  • 15,6 million people – 18% of the population suffer from hunger
  • 3,4 million children under 5 years are acutely malnourished
  • 41,8% million children under 5 years are stunted
  • 63,2% of children below 5 years of age and 41% of women  15-49 years are anemic
In 2023, we have saved approximately

550

people from starvation
We take in at least

80

children a week in our nutrition center

03.07.2023

When a child in need turns up at the doorstep of the nutrition centre, no one wastes a minute. We immediately took the most important blood tests and prepared a meal.

Three-year-old Kaleb’s appetite was enormous – it was clear that the boy had been starving for a long time. He ate plain potatoes with such an appetite as if it was the best meal in the world.

What would appear to be a healthy roundness is simply the swelling that accompanies advanced hunger sickness. In addition to malnutrition, Kaleb had serious problems with his digestive system. The weakness did not spare his immune system either. In this condition, just a mosquito bite could be fatal.

We did full blood tests and addressed the intestinal problem. Our doctors quickly brought the malaria under control, but completing nutritional therapy is a prerequisite for a full recovery.

We are shining our good-faith light into the sky today by writing straight to the point – Kaleb needs a Superhero!

Someone who will share a meal with him, funding at least part of his nutritional therapy. Your PLN 15 will not only allow us to prepare more portions, but will also pay for the cost of further tests, medicines, medical equipment and the work of the doctors, who earn a very modest income here indeed.

Hunger is the easiest disease to cure – will you fight with us for Kaleb?
