“These will be your two most important tools for the next three years,” Gosia says to the first-year students, who are just learning how to properly hold a needle and thread. Soon, they’ll master simple stitches and measuring straight lines on fabric. In three years, they’ll face their vocational exam, so each one of them has already gotten down to work, determined not to waste a moment.
First comes the explanation on the board, followed by notes in their notebooks to capture every detail, and then they dive right in to work! Each of them knows that gaining experience and earning a diploma is their ticket to finding a job in the future. This opportunity will help them avoid emigrating (including to Europe) and provide the stability needed to start and sustain a family. Best of all, the items sewn by our students are available for purchase in our shop!
Their enthusiasm for learning continues to grow, but to keep that momentum alive, we need your help. Fund one day of the tailoring course—it’s a skill more valuable than gold.
