Congolese tradition does not provide many options for naming twins. Each twin here is Gakury – the first, bigger one – and Gato – the younger or smaller one. However, not everyone has the same opportunities to grow up with their brother in a home where there is enough to eat.
The mother of these beautiful children is one of a large group of Congolese women who have been badly tormented by life and have no strength left for anything. She, however, does. Both children were born in our hospital and both of them have received regular visits from the very beginning. We weigh them, feed them and we react whenever we see that something is lacking at home.
Her maternal instinct tells her to stick close to Ntamugenga and report to the nutrition centre or hospital when she sees something wrong with the boys.
Thanks to you she has somewhere to come and we never refuse to help her! A therapeutic meal is only 15 PLN. This is a sum that can even sometimes get misplaced in one’s trouser pockets. However, this 15 PLN has the power to fill the hungry tummies of those in our care.
We, and you, are their only hope for salvation from the hunger that is so often fatal in this part of the world.
Join us! Let’s feed a hungry child!
