It can’t be that not having a notebook or the cheapest flip-flops to get to lessons will stand in the way of learning the basic skills needed to survive in Burkina Faso! And yet – not every child will start school in the upcoming school year.
The results? Deplorable.
Lack of education is linked to many times higher mortality rates in adulthood. This is not just a statistic – it is the reality of adults in the African countries we help every day.
It’s not that the children simply won’t learn the basics of reading or maths. School education in Burkina Faso is also about learning farming, planting trees, animal husbandry, sensible water management and the basics of healthy eating. It’s about learning to live independently, which is only becoming a more distant dream for some children every year.
This was the dream you brought closer to Wend Zaade and Michael – now exemplary students who have been given the real chance of a lifetime – more than 1.5 years ago.
We can and must make a difference to the children who have not received their chance from life this year – yet. This little part of the world – the village of Gourcy – which we have been looking after for several years, needs your helping hand today. The school year is about to start!
Join our fundraiser – every layette, single pencil or notebook is your contribution to the relay race of goodness, where the finish line is the future and a dignified life for children! Give them the chance of a lifetime!
