We ask you for warmth, lots of warmth for Ukraine

Ukraine

On the 24th of February 2022, Russia launched a military offensive into Ukraine, causing civilian casualties and destroying the country’s infrastructure. More than a quarter of the population has been forced to flee their homes. In the first few weeks, more than 4.3 million refugees fled Ukraine, and a second as many were internally displaced. It is the fastest growing refugee crisis since World War II.

We cannot be indifferent to the suffering of our neighbours – we immediately set out to help!

The points of invincibility are places where Kiev residents will find shelter when the energy is out for more than 24 hours. They will get food, a place to sleep, a safe shelter in case of air raids, medicines and first aid. No one is allowed to reveal their location.

We speak to the mayor of the Brovary area. It was here that a huge Iskander ballistic missile fell in the first days of the war. The 100,000-strong town on the outskirts of Kiev is preparing for the worst. We go down to see shelters in other parts of the capital too.

And here it is important to clarify what the lack of electricity entails. It’s not just a forced candlelit dinner. It’s a complete destabilisation of life. It’s a lack of heating and water, dark, dangerous streets, no internet, no mobile communications. It’s chaos, utter helplessness and the inevitability of life-threatening cold. Yesterday’s attacks knocked out electricity for hours. Hundreds of thousands of people are still cut off from light and the ability to stay warm.

We are currently connecting three points of invincibility to satellite communications, but there are more needs. We ask you for warmth, lots of warmth for Ukraine. Just because the war at our neighbour’s has dropped in the media ratings doesn’t mean it’s over. It is harder than ever before.

The Warm Package for Ukraine fundraiser is underway. Join in!!! We are asking you, the brave Ukrainians who don’t want to go anywhere are asking you. This is their home, their place.
