Democratic Republic of Congo

The second largest country of Africa, full of paradoxes. On one hand, it is rich in natural resources (including cobalt, copper, coltan, crude oil, diamonds, gold); on the other hand, its inhabitants are among the poorest in the world. For decades, the DRC has been suffering from prolonged conflicts that have led to one of the most severe humanitarian crises in the world.

Overview:
  • 77% of the population live in extreme poverty for less than $1.90 a day
  • 16% of the country’s population, i.e. over 13 million people, require immediate humanitarian assistance
  • 13,6 million people are deprived of access to safe water sources and proper sanitary and hygienic facilities
  • numerous outbreaks of deadly diseases, including measles, malaria, cholera and Ebola
  • about 10% of all malaria deaths in sub-Saharan Africa occurred here
Our hospital carries over

27 000

medical procedures per year
We treat about

7000

malaria patients every year
Our midwives delivered about

953

babies in 2023

War or no war, the three children, cardiology patients at our hospital, cannot wait, so we are quickly getting passports for them. The operations in France, the cost of which will be covered by the French clinic, are their only chance of survival. You have provided the passports, the necessary documents and the trip to the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, for which we thank you from the bottom of our hearts and bow our heads. You are saving these children’s lives with us!

Until then, our task is to ensure the continuation of nutrition therapy for the young patients at the centre, which is quite a challenge in wartime conditions. The number of children at the nutrition centre is increasing all the time. We also continue to support those who have been forced to abandon everything for fear of rebel attacks. Food is currently distributed on an individual basis: to the weakest and sick, malnourished and disabled children and senior citizens. The scale of need is growing all the time. There are more than 200 people a week who regularly receive help thanks to you, and in addition your support has already enabled us to provide one-off assistance to more than 500 families. That’s more than 1,500 people who don’t go to sleep with an empty stomach.

We are already halfway through the fundraiser – it is thanks to you that the hospital and staff can keep working, despite the threat from the troops. Doctors and nurses are sleeping on the floors, freeing up beds for the sick. They also eat exactly what our patients are given. Their solidarity with the sick and suffering moves us every day, and as we look at Dr John, who refuses to leave the patient’ beds, and Dr Patient, who fights for the hearts of our young cardiac patients, we know that we cannot give up. We must do everything in our power to keep the hospital running and stable.

Join our fundraiser, share our posts and stories – every share is another meal or IV. You have tremendous power – we can’t do anything without you!
