Let's Save the Life of One-Month-Old Fabien

Democratic Republic of Congo

The second largest country of Africa, full of paradoxes. On one hand, it is rich in natural resources (including cobalt, copper, coltan, crude oil, diamonds, gold); on the other hand, its inhabitants are among the poorest in the world. For decades, the DRC has been suffering from prolonged conflicts that have led to one of the most severe humanitarian crises in the world.

Overview:
  • 77% of the population live in extreme poverty for less than $1.90 a day
  • 16% of the country’s population, i.e. over 13 million people, require immediate humanitarian assistance
  • 13,6 million people are deprived of access to safe water sources and proper sanitary and hygienic facilities
  • numerous outbreaks of deadly diseases, including measles, malaria, cholera and Ebola
  • about 10% of all malaria deaths in sub-Saharan Africa occurred here

Little Fabien needs urgent help!
Congenital hypertrophic pyloric stenosis sounds mysterious, although it’s estimated that this anatomical defect occurs in as many as 8 in 1,000 children. For Fabien, born in the heart of the Congolese bush, this diagnosis could mean a slow death from starvation and dehydration. His mother was at a loss—her son was losing weight before her eyes, and every feeding ended in vomiting. At just one month old, this little boy couldn’t absorb nearly any nutrients from the milk.
The boy is now in the best possible hands! Thanks to Sister Agnieszka‘s quick action, an anesthetic qualification will take place today. The surgery is planned for tomorrow and will be performed by an outstanding specialist who has trained many doctors in our hospital in Ntamugenga.
For a child who cannot absorb any food, maintaining water-electrolyte balance is crucial. Every IV drip is now worth its weight in gold. We urgently ask you—please visit GoodWorks 24/7 and give this boy a chance for a full recovery!
