We're going back to the border! The situation becomes complicated again

Ukraine

Since the escalation of the war in February 2022, until mid-October 2024, nearly 6.8 million refugees4 from Ukraine have been recorded – 92 per cent of them in Europe. Inside Ukraine, an estimated 3.6 million people5 remain internally displaced as of October 2024.

Among the most vulnerable are also an estimated 12.6 million as of March 2025 people who were not displaced from their homes but who have been directly affected by the war – they have been wounded, their homes have been destroyed, their family members died.

Civilian infrastructure, such as power grids, water supply networks. hospitals transportation infrastructure, have been targeted by the daily missile attacks, severely disrupting people’s lives across the whole country, and particularly in the East.

About 3 600 educational institutions, including nearly

2 000 schools,

have suffered damage with some 371 educational facilities totally destroyed since the escalation of the war.
There were over

2 100 attacks

on healthcare facilities, which have claimed at least 197 lives, including those of health workers and patients, and injured many more, severely disrupting health services.

We are heading back to the border! The situation is getting complicated again. Yesterday the queue to the crossing point in Kroscienko stretched for many kilometres once again. Our contacts at other crossings also observed increased traffic. At least 6 people died of cold while waiting to cross. The coming nights will be very cold. We expect up to 11 degrees below zero. Thousands of people once again are in need of warmth.

Stay with us, follow our coverage, share posts and support our fundraiser to “Help Ukraine!” This way, you can generate even more heat with us and do good work with us at the border!

The border zone on the Ukrainian side is not the only area where we operate. Every day, we send supplies further into the country. Our aid has already reached Lviv and Kiev. A supply of warm clothes and shoes is about to leave for Rovno.

In the past few days we also assisted the Western Railway Station by setting up a complete system for managing the refugees’ needs, which will be put into operation any minute now, under the watchful eye of Ada Porowska of the Camillian Mission for Social Assistance.

In a few days we will also tell you about other ideas. We are currently working on development projects for people who have already moved to Poland and need to find their feet in a completely unknown, foreign reality.
