A Child’s Last Wish
Some illnesses are beyond our control, and although the passing of a child is always painful, we do what we can to make sure each day is lived to the fullest. Sometimes this means higher doses of painkillers and sometimes it just means a portion of your favourite chips, which in a hospital located in the heart of the Congolese jungle is not at all an obvious dream.
When Sister Agnieszka sees a child’s condition deteriorating, she sometimes rushes to the market to buy maize, and late into the night she uses it to prepare popcorn that is so loved by the children. The children who can no longer stand up on their own are taken for rides so that they can still enjoy the world with their eyes and not sit confined amidst the hospital equipment and the rhythmic sound of the heart monitor.
Every child has different dreams and we strive to make them come true, even if they are the last. Give a last wish to a child who, despite a terminal illness, still has dreams!
